How to find Jolly Roger Surfboards - Surfboard Shaper in Cornwall - near Crooklets Beach, Bude

Roger works from a small unit close to Crooklets beach. He uses top quality materials including locally produced Homeblown foam (the greenest foam in Britain), Hexel glass and Silmar resin and because he has low overheads, he can sell his boards direct to the public at factory prices.

His boards are the most competitive custom-shapes in the UK.

In a typical week, Roger shaped a 5'5" stringerless quad; a 6'0" high performance squash tail; a 7'4" 'big boy' floater; a 9'1" beginner's board; and a 10'x 24" scoop nose triple stringer for Santa Cruz legend "Seasick Steve".

If you have any enquiry to do with surfing, from shaping to travel, Roger can offer advice and a friendly chat.

Call Roger on 01288 488 140 or email him at info@jollyrogersurfboards.com.

Lunatic Surfer or Destiny by Donald Paarman

Lunatic Surfer or Destiny by Donald Paarman

A book about the life and times of Donald Paarman, eldest of the renowned Cape Town surfing clan and arguably the best surfer to come out of South Africa in the 1960's. Subtitled 'Autobiography of a Sprinbok...whaaat!', the story chronicles his upbringing in a close knit catholic family, his introduction to surfing and selection for the Springbok surfing teams of 1966, '68 and '70, offering a fascinating glimpse of the surfing and hippie cultures that exist both in south Africa and Internationally.

In his own inimitable way he lays bare his descent into drugs, alcoholism and lunacy on numerous occasions. His resurrection through surfing, therapy and abstinence to become a healthy and surf-stoked 56 year old who is still seeking the meaning of life., is an inspiration to all and provides a timeless attraction for anyone interested in alternative new age lifestyles and those living them.
